Understanding Lyα emitters
This publication contains the conference summary of the Understanding Lyα Emitters conference held at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg October 6 10, 2008. The scope of the conference was to bring together most of the scientists working in the field of Lyα emitters, whether at low or high redshift, or on observational or theoretical aspects, and to summarise how far the field...
متن کاملThe Density of Lyα Emitters at Very High Redshift
We describe narrowband and spectroscopic searches for emission-line star forming galaxies in the redshift range 3 – 6 with the 10 m Keck II Telescope. These searches yield a substantial population of objects with only a single strong (equivalent width ≫ 100 Å) emission line, lying in the 4000− 8500 Å range. Spectra of the objects found in narrowband–selected samples at λ ∼ 5390 Å and ∼ 6741 Å s...
متن کاملModels for High–Redshift Lyα Emitters
We present models for dusty high–redshift Lyα emitting galaxies by combining the Press–Schechter formalism with a treatment of inhomogeneous dust distribution inside galaxies. These models reproduce the surface density of emitters inferred from recent observations, and also agree with previous non–detections. Although a detailed determination of the individual model parameters is precluded by u...
متن کاملCONSTRAINING THE Lyα ESCAPE FRACTION WITH FAR-INFRARED OBSERVATIONS OF Lyα EMITTERS
We study the far-infrared properties of 498 Lyα emitters (LAEs) at z = 2.8, 3.1, and 4.5 in the Extended Chandra Deep Field-South, using 250, 350, and 500μm data from the Herschel Multi-tiered Extragalactic Survey and 870μm data from the LABOCA ECDFS Submillimeter Survey. None of the 126, 280, or 92 LAEs at z = 2.8, 3.1, and 4.5, respectively, are individually detected in the far-infrared data....
متن کاملReionization and Galaxy Evolution Probed by Z = 7 Lyα Emitters
We made a narrowband NB973 (bandwidth of 200Å centered at 9755Å) imaging of the Subaru Deep Field (SDF) and found two z = 7 Lyα emitter (LAE) candidates down to NB973 = 24.9. Carrying out deep follow-up spectroscopy, we identified one of them as a real z = 6.96 LAE. This has established a new redshift record, showing that galaxy formation was in progress just 750 Myr after the Big Bang. Meanwhi...
